October is one of the least crowded times of the year to visit, and in our opinion also one of the most rewarding. For one week each autumn, Venice becomes a showcase for design in all its forms. Studios, shops, historic buildings, workshops and galleries open their doors for exhibitions, classes, talks and special events. This year's highlights include dedicated sections for jewelry, lighting, interiors and outdoor design, as well as the popular two-day Design Market featuring local and international talent.

Directed by Italian musician and composer Caterina Barbieri, the 69th International Festival of Contemporary Music explores the theme "The Star Within." Blending her classical background with a forward-thinking approach to electronic music, Barbieri leads a program that spans genres and draws inspiration from the cosmos and the natural world. The festival opens with a musical water ceremony along the Grand Canal, culminating in a live performance on the lagoon at the Arsenal.
