Throughout August you can enjoy the magic of the silver screen beneath the stars as part of the Cinemoving project in the grand Arena di Campo San Polo. The event will showcase a diverse range of films and documentaries from across Europe, shown in their original language with Italian subtitles. Admission is free but arriving early is advised as this is a popular event. The full program is announced on the Municipality of Venice's website each summer.

Ferragosto

Ferragosto, dating back to the reign of Emperor Augustus, marks the height of the Italian summer. Once a day of rest for agricultural workers, it is now a beloved public holiday celebrated nationwide. On the Lido, expect beach bonfires, barbecues and a lively seaside atmosphere, while museums in the city often offer free admission. Many local businesses close for the day as Venetians take time to enjoy the holiday with family and friends. 

82nd Venice International Film Festival

One of the world's longest-running film festivals, the Venice International Film Festival returns to the Lido for its 82nd edition. Opening night at the Sala Grande in the Palazzo del Cinema features a star-studded red carpet followed by the world premiere of the opening film. Across its six official sections—and two dedicated to independent Italian cinema—the festival presents an impressive lineup of world premieres and acclaimed works from around the globe.
